Start date of £65 million Kirkstall Place development revealed

Property developer Artisan Real Estate will start work on its £65m Kirkstall Place development in September, it’s been revealed.

In a press release, Artisan said the first occupiers are expected to move in next summer, and the development of 263 dwellings should be completed by 2024.

Kirkstall Place will be built on the former Kirkstall District Centre site and was subject to a two-year planning wrangle with Leeds City Council following concerns over its impact on traffic and the local community.

Final planning permission was granted in March and will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom townhouses ranging in price from £190,000 to £360,000.

Artisan Real Estate’s regional manager for the North, James Bulmer, said the development has been designed, and will be built, according to the latest sustainable and low carbon principles and will not include any fossil fuel use. He added:

“Sustainability is a principal philosophy here at Artisan, that is why we have designed Kirkstall Place with environmental, economic and social awareness at its core to ensure we not only deliver excellent, energy efficient homes, but also create a place with a strong sense of community.”

Kirkstall Place will be powered entirely by electricity and using energy efficient air source heat pumps, most car parking spaces will have electric vehicle charging points.

The seven-acre site is on the corner of Kirkstall Hill, Kirkstall Lane and the A65 Kirkstall Road.

  1. Kirkstall road and Burley road are already pollution hotspots and this housing estate is squeezed between two already hideously congested junctions with roads barely able to cater for the high volumes of traffic as it is. “Environmental, economic and social awareness at its core” – what a joke. Someone definitely got some backhanders to sanction this.

  2. It’s obvious that the people who granted planning permission for this don’t have a clue or have been down here at peak times ie RUSH hour it’s pure torture as it is this will make it worse
