Regulars at a West Leeds park are being urged to attend a public meeting to help set up a ‘Friends’ group to help make it better.
Local residents have been calling for improvements at New Wortley Recreation Ground for years – and now Councillor Ann Forsaith (Green, Farnley & Wortley) is looking to set up a Friends of New Wortley Recreation Ground, off Oldfield Lane, to champion and improve the parkland.
Cllr Forsaith said: “People who are regular users are invited to the meeting to help form a group to help make improvements at the park. I’ve had requests from several local people who want to make a difference and see improvements. This is an opportunity for people to do it.”
Last year, a similar public meeting helped set up the Friends of Western Flatts Park group in Wortley, and the group has gone on to successfully run a number of events and tidy ups of the park, as well as help implement improvements.
The Friends of New Wortley Rec public meeting on Monday, 26 September, 6pm at Highfield Methodist Church, Highfield Avenue, Leeds LS12 4BU.
The meeting will be attended by an officer from the Council’s Parks and Countryside department, who can offer advice and support to new Friends groups.
