Fans urged to get behind Farsley Celtic as relegation dogfight concludes in final game of season

By John Baron & Thomas Ritchie

Farsley Celtic enter the last game of a difficult season knowing victory will guarantee their status in the National League North for next season. But if they fail to win, and the Celt Army’s fate will be determined by Telford and Guiseley’s results.

Farsley entertain play-off chasing Boston United at the Citadel tomorrow (Saturday) but head into this game without a win in three games, with unlucky defeats to Chester (1-0) and York City (2-0) followed by a creditable draw at Darlington (1-1) on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Celts will secure a place in the National League North for next season with the following results:

  • Farsley WIN
  • Farsley DRAW and Telford DRAW/LOSS and/or Guiseley DRAW/LOSS
  • Farsley LOSS and Telford LOSS and/or Guiseley DRAW/LOSS

Eighth-place Boston have seen their play-off hopes hampered by a run of three games without success, as a loss to Fylde (3-1) was followed by 1-1 draws with AFC Telford United and Gloucester City.

Paul Cox’s side were minutes away from being in a more comfortable position heading into the final day, but conceded a last-gasp equaliser against Gloucester. As a result, they need to win by two more goals than Kettering do, or better the Poppies’ result.

Farsley Celtic have injury problems to key players for such a vital game. Jean Leroy-Belehouan, Harry Jessop and Tom Allan will all be unavailable through injury, while Lewis Butroid, and influential midfielders Sam Walker and Dave Syers are doubts.

On a positive note, Chris Atkinson will be available for selection following the completion of his three-match suspension.

Boston United find Brad Nicholson, Matt Tootle, Tom Platt, Joe Leesley and Jordan Burrow are all sidelined through injury. On-loan forward James Hanson is ineligible to play against his parent club.

The Celts are calling for fans to rally one final time this season. Kirk-off is 3pm. Tickets are available here or pay on the gate.
